My Side of the Mountain is the story of Sam Gribley. Sam has grown up in New York City with numerous brothers and sisters. Eventually Sam decides to run away from home and live in the Catskill mountains. He learns all that he can about survival in the wilds and takes only what he needs with him. He finds a home in a massive hollow tree and begins to learn how to live off of the land and provide for himself. Along the way he captures a falcon, that he names Frightful, to provide companionship and to help him hunt and also is frequented by many other animals as well. As Sam grows and learns to live off of the land, he also encounters several different people as well. While Sam loves his life, eventually his family does find him and decides to live with him in the mountains. This does mean Sam will need to make changes in how he lives, but having his family back in his life might not be a bad thing after all. —Matthew Hoehamer
